Cre­ated in 2016 with 50 res­id­ents of the Caen region, INSANE is a cho­reo­graph­ic work that is now per­formed by numer­ous groups of people liv­ing in Lithuania, the United King­dom, the Czech Repub­lic, and beyond.
Through a train­ing pro­tocol and toolkit-shar­ing pro­cess, Alban Richard sup­ports European cho­reo­graph­ers in work­ing with res­id­ents of their own coun­tries, draw­ing on the struc­ture of INSANE to cre­ate a loc­ally rooted ver­sion each time.
Between 2023 and 2026, the piece has been restaged 10 times in Lithuania, once in the United King­dom, and once in the Czech Republic.

INSANE is a dance pro­ject situ­ated in spe­cif­ic loc­a­tions. It is the inva­sion of a space by a com­munity of bod­ies without iden­tity, without gender, without cul­tur­al or reli­gious mark­ers — a com­munity that sim­ul­tan­eously inhab­its and haunts that space.
The piece is struc­tured in three sections:

1. A com­munity of people wanders and con­structs human architectures.
2. Small groups of indi­vidu­als embody scenes from the Last Judge­ment in an end­less procession.
3. A dance ritu­al emerges from a col­lect­ive energy and spills into the audi­ence’s own space, cul­min­at­ing in a joy­ful celebration.
