To define my profession, I open the Larousse dictionary. I am therefore “an artist who composes dances and ballets.” That’s a bit dry.
I go to a free online encyclopedia and read: “the choreographer organizes space and structures movement through a personal vocabulary drawn from the infinite variety of the kinetic capacities of the human body, with the aim of communicating an idea, a feeling, an emotion, a situation.” That’s a bit lyrical.
Serge Lifar coined the term choreauthor to assert his place as the creator of dance. That’s clever.
In short, I design and compose performances in which people dance.
